Shoulder Pain 肩关节痛

Accurate Diagnosis • Targeted Treatment • Functional Recovery

Shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints, affecting daily activities such as lifting, dressing, sleeping, and exercise. At JIN TCM CLINIC, we believe that effective shoulder pain treatment begins with accurate diagnosis, followed by individualised TCM intervention.

Common Shoulder Conditions We Treat

Shoulder pain is not a single condition. Different causes require different treatment strategies. Our physicians are trained to identify and manage conditions such as:

  • Rotator cuff injuries or tears – pain and weakness when lifting the arm
  • Shoulder impingement syndrome – pain during overhead movements
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) – stiffness and limited movement in all directions
  • Overuse or sports-related shoulder injuries – repetitive strain or acute injuries from work or sports
  • Degenerative shoulder conditions – age-related wear and tear affecting joint function
  • Shoulder dislocation or post-dislocation instability – pain, weakness, limited range of motion, or recurrent instability after the shoulder has slipped out of place

Our Approach: “Check First, Then Treat”

Before treatment begins, our physicians conduct a comprehensive shoulder assessment, which may include:

  • Pain pattern and movement analysis
  • Range of motion testing
  • Special orthopaedic tests to differentiate shoulder conditions
  • Review of imaging reports (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound) when available

This ensures treatment is safe, precise and condition-specific, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Treatment Modalities May Include

Depending on your condition, treatment may involve a combination of:

  • Acupuncture to relieve pain and improve shoulder mobility
  • Tuina (TCM manual therapy) to release soft tissue restriction
  • Bone-setting to correct subtle joint misalignment and reduce pressure on surrounding tissue
  • Cupping or gua sha to improve local circulation
  • Electro-acupuncture for stubborn or chronic pain
  • Chinese herbal medicine to address internal imbalances and support healing
  • Rehabilitation advice and corrective exercises to restore function and prevent recurrence

Our Treatment Goals

  • Reduce pain and inflammation
  • Restore shoulder mobility and strength
  • Improve daily function and quality of life
  • Prevent chronic pain and repeated injury

When Should You Seek Treatment?

You should consider professional assessment if you experience:

  • Shoulder pain lasting more than a few days
  • Difficulty lifting or rotating your arm
  • Night pain or pain affecting sleep
  • Recurrent or worsening shoulder discomfort

Early intervention leads to better recovery outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at 88969398 (Ubi) or 88963210 (Aljunied) if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. Lack of pain does not always mean there is no problem. Early signs such as weakness, stiffness, or reduced range of motion may indicate underlying issues that are easier to address before pain develops.

Not necessarily. Many shoulder conditions can be identified through a detailed clinical assessment and physical examination. If you already have imaging reports (X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound), our physicians will review them. If imaging is required, we will advise accordingly.

When performed by MOH-registered TCM physicians, bone-setting is a controlled and gentle technique used to address subtle joint misalignment and soft tissue tension. It is applied only when clinically appropriate and after proper assessment.

In many cases, yes — with modifications. Our physicians will advise on activity levels, posture adjustments, and specific exercises to support recovery while avoiding further injury.

Yes. In addition to symptom relief, treatment includes functional recovery, muscle balance correction, and rehabilitation advice, helping reduce the risk of recurrence.
